hi sorry to here your sad news. as for the fry how old / big are they and did you have an air stone in the tank cause if they are realy small new hatching then air is more important than a pump as at the small size they give off little waist and with only a few in the tank simple daily partial water changes will be enough.

My rudd spawned a couple of years ago and produced quite a lot of fry. I netted about half and put them in a tank with a sponge filter (which would help with yours I think, produce air but would also be more gentle for the fry) and fed them fry food.

I had babys last year and 8 survived,I have lillies in my pond and that gave them somewhere to hide,the stems of the lillies were thick and tangled so the small ones could dart in and out but the big fish couldn't,did have some babies this year but I think last years young which were only a couple of inches long could get though the stems,I put a cage in one corner where the lillies were ,it only had 1/4 inch gaps in it thinking that the babies could get in there and be safe,but it didn't work.I have airstones in my pond now after someone on here said it would be a good idea,Turned 2 of the 4 pumps off and have the airstones on at night,wish I had done it before...look good and cheap and easy to install but most important more oxygen for the fish.

I would put the fry back in the pond- they were doing ok there before you moved them and now they seem to be in mortal danger in a tank without a constantly working bio filter (which means no bio at all really). If you have a pump fed setup in your pond then it's best to fit a float switch into the power cable to the pump, so it will turn off in the event of an external leak before it drains your pond. I would net the pond or get a heron protection kit with fishing lines round the edge on support posts, or even electric fence wires.
