I have a eastern painted hatchling that was born the last week of July. I am new to the hobby and acquired him because I work in a research lab that is doing a study with these turtles. This specific turtle hatched from a dented egg and his shell is a bit deformed and one of his legs is deformed.

Cr3do

I don't have answers to all your questions but would just like to congratulate you and taking on a deformed turtle. This is very good of you, and I can see you want the best for it. Good luck!

sarashjo

Below is a link to a picture of his bad leg for more information on the deformity. He holds it close to his belly which is how he hatched. He can move it a bit but it doesn't seem to function. He relies on his good leg and if he tries to swim too fast he sometimes ends up making a circle.

sarashjo

I'll do some research on musk setups and see if I get any ideas, thanks!

Cr3do

I can't really tell from that photo, maybe take it out of the water and hold it up, so you can take a close up photo?

sarashjo

Thanks for your input, I was actually thinking about it more yesterday and I was thinking that tomorrow while I have the day off I would add more water so that I could keep an eye on him throughout the day to make sure he is ok.

sarashjo

I got a video over lunch of him trying to swim. You can see the movement of his front right leg isn't right. I guess it is less of a deformity and more of a defect. Thoughts?
