My gander did something similar to his bill, it filled in, and can't even tell where it was. Put some Apple cider vinegar in their drinking bucket. 1 Tab per gallon. at that strength, it won't sting and it is great for cleaning out bacteria that may get into that hole.

While we were away at Hop Bottom there was chaos on the farm because Sam (our LGD) is still healing from a probably snake bite. Among other things 2 ducks are missing and one has an injured upper bill. A predator, probably a fox, bit the duck on the bill.

AHhh poor duck. DOn't know anything about ducks, but aren't beaks and bills kind of like fingernails? they'll keep growing? It sounds like your guy had pretty serious bill damage though, so not sure...but super gluing it sounds like you did the right thing. Good luck with the little guy.

I've been considering 2-part epoxy but would like a bit more expereince with positioning the loose part of the bill so we get a better match between the upper and lower bill. We also figured that super glue would not hold up to the wet conditions for long but it was a start so the duck could eat.

I don't think there's a blood supply to the outer parts of the bill, unfortunately. But tea is definitely right about the antibiotics. Ducks are really sensitive to bite wound pathogens.

Rotten autocorrect. I meant to say, I would be most concerned about whether your duck can clean his/her NARES properly. Normally when they dabble, they blow water out the top, clearing food residue. If this builds uo, it can present a choking an infection risk.

Good grief Mark, it sounds like carnage. Almost makes you want to never leave home. I don't really have any helpful advice, except that as you note, the duck needs its bill to eat. It simply may not be salveagable.
